Course II Cake

This is my final cake from course II. Our power went out Tuesday at noon from a bad storm we had and didn't turn back on until late that night. My cake was in the middle of cooking when the power went out. So it was ruined! But I went to class to learn the techniques anyway. Everyone else had a cake there! I didn't realize that not everyone power when out. But I was able to make it at home the next day. We made all the flowers and birds in the first three weeks of class. I really like the basket wave look.

You are sooooo much more patient than me. I would love to be able to do that, but half way through I'd probably quit and do something else. Did you make the birds out of royal icing? And how do you keep them from tasting stale if you make them ahead of time?

Wow! That is so beautiful! You are so talented!!! I love to bake, and I briefly worked at a bakery as a cake decorator which was so fun!

I live in Hawaii (my hubby is in the Army) and our power goes out all the time, annoying . . .

BTW-I love your blog and I can't wait to read more. I became a follower so I'm totally going to blog-stalk you now! :)

Jenny, The birds are actually color flow, it makes a little stiffer than royal. After they dry I keep them in an airtight container so stay fresh. Most special occasion cakes that have lots of detail are actually made ahead of time then placed on the cake later. I think don't like the taste of the royal or color flow. My teacher sugguests adding a little buttercream or almond flavoring in place of the water. I'll have to try it.

That is beautiful! I love the birds. Wish I could be there to taste it also. I think that was such a nice gift for Johnny to give you.
