No Heat Curls--Super Easy!

I have always had a hard time curling my hair. I have very thick hair and no patience to do it! Though, I love the look! I recently found this YouTube video showing an easy no heat curl. I tried this and seriously in 1 hour my hair was curly! Too bad I recently cut all my hair short or else it would have worked better. I didn't have a head band so I just took some elastic and sewed the ends together. I love this easy way to get a cute look!

Halloween Wreath

I saw a similar wreath on Etsy, but I wasn't able to pay $50 for something I know I can make under $5. I simply wrapped the yarn around a straw wreath, used my Silhouette SD to cut the black fabric house and bats and put them onto felt. Super easy!

I saw this cute pumpkin craft on You Craft Me UP and had to make one! I wasn't able to get the wire cheap so I used ribbon instead. I used my Silhouette SD for the vinyl. I don't have a saw so I needed the wood cut in the store. Lowe's claims that no one in town will cut a 4 x 4, only 2's. So I went to Home Depot, wasn't a problem at all. They were so nice about it.

We had a lot of fun on this project, my husband even helped!! The kids and I sanded and painted. I'm also impressed with myself that it only took 1 week for me to finish from start to finish!! Now, to finish my Halloween wreath.....

Paper Watch

Though, a paper watch won't last long it was nice to get some practice on my Silhouette. It was good practice for grouping, welding and print/cut. Plus my son loved it! I finally finished my skirt! I have a habit of getting really excited to start a project and when they don't go my way, I put them on hold! I found this really cool book Sew Serendipity. It comes with 3 patterns and 18 different ways to use them. I have always eyed things and never used patterns before, so it was a little frustrating because I ended up making the skirt way too big, then I left it for 2 months until I picked it up again. I wasn't so sure how I'd like it with 3different crazy patterns but I love it now!

I LOVE my Silhouette SD machine. This morning the kids and I made these 3D roses and this cute little card for daddy while he was away at class. This was the first time he had ever receved flowers;-) and he can keep these forever! I wish I had zoomed in on the little tiny heart on the bottom. It says, "for u" in tiny print. This machine is so awesome! It can cut the smallest details!

Easy to Make Lace Cards

I simply printed on heavy cardstock, put some contact paper over them, punched a few holes and your done! A 5 minute project!

Not Hapy with Melissa and Doug - No Train Set After All

So I did win the train set and after not receiving it after 3 weeks I noticed the blog host had announced another winner without telling me! So I emailed her and asked if I did something wrong. She told me Melissa and Doug had asked her to pick a new winner as I had won a train set before. What? No I didn't! She said she was going to write Melissa and Doug as I never won a train set before and I clearly won this one. And haven't heard anything from either!! Sad! I do like Melissa and Doug product but is this how their PR runs things? That just made their ratings go down for me! I was planning on giving this to my little guy for his 3rd birthday in February. I even freecycled all his old trains thinking he had nicer ones coming. Would have been nice if someone would have had the courtesy to me!

Chore Chart

For a couple months I contemplated a chore chart idea for my toddler. I came across so many cute things on others blogs but I have so many projects going right now and really needed to get this done so I made this temporary chore chart. I simply printed images on card stock, put them on contact paper and put a magnet on the back. I also put magnets on the envelope so when he does his chores he can put them in there. He likes it a lot. It's a little funny, my sister when here this summer told him the story of Cinderella. So when I made the chore chart he got really excited and said "I want to do my chores just like Cinderella." What a cutie! He has been really good at helping out.

Mod Podge Children's Easle

I got a children's easle off freecycle. It had marker stains on the wood and the calkboard. So I sanded the wood, repainted the chalkboard with chalkboard paint (we decided blue would be cooler), I mod podged the tray, it was a ugly red before, and mod podeged ABC's and 123's on it. Now it's tucked away and ready for Christmas! Only cost me $6 in supplies. Sweet!

Birthday Cakes

My mom and I share the same birthday and this was the first time in 5 years that we've been able to celebrate together.

This is the cake I made for myself, a watermelon, no particular reason just thought it looked easy and interesting. I used piping gel with black coloring for the seeds.

This is the cake my sister made my mom. She did a great job! Coco rice crispys for the meatballs and cherry pie filling for the sauce.

When I saw this tutorial on U Create I had to make it! Too cute! This is an easy tutorial. I was surprised at how fast it too me to get these done! I made two for my toddler and two for the baby. It was pretty easy to figure the math to make a smaller hat. Now they have matching, reversible hats! Click here for the tutorial.

Robby's Book

I started this a long time ago and finally told myself that I had to finish it. I made a book in high school art and thought it would be fun to make Robby his own special book to write all the cute things he does and says in it. I mod podged two pieces of hard board, added paper and sewed the sides together. I couldn't find any thing online that did it the way I did back in art. If anyone wants better details let me know, as I have to make another one for our newest addition.

Cake Decorating

Last Wednesday at my church I taught the Young Women cake decorating. I forgot to take any pictures of it but here's the cake I made. I made them some practice sheets and we did basic stuff like, shell borders, rosettes, writing. It was a lot of fun! We had little 6 in. cakes for them to decorate. They all ran out afterwards so excited to show their cakes to their dad's that were there.

I finally finished putting together the changing table. For some reason no one around here had white baskets with holes! But I finally found some after months of searching!

For the white baskets I took different colors and styles of ribbon and weaved it through and either tied in a bow or into a not. For the bottom baskets I just took some Huggies boxes and covered them using this tutorial.

Coupon Ideas

With my husband being in grad school we try to spend our money wisely and use coupons were we can. I saw on ebay that a lot of people clip coupons and auction them off. So I had to try it. I got 100 grocery coupons for $1.12 including shipping. Normally I buy off brand stuff but it actually turned out to be a good deal getting these coupons. Just be smart about it and use your coupons when things are on sale. I got a four pack of yogoyogurt for 50 cents! It was on sale for 1.50 and I had a 1 coupon! That's cheaper than buying off brand!

This morning I was listening to the news and they were talking about Groupon.com. It's a site that does a daily deal coupon in most major cities. They have some neat things on there like $40 for an hour massage or $35 for a teeth cleaning! Check it out here.

Easter Bunny Bread

Here is the Easter Bunny Bread I made last year. Thought I would share the recipe with you before Easter this year incase you want to try it out. Happy Easter!

2 loaves (1lb. each) frozen bread dough, thawed
2 raisins
2 sliced almonds
1 egg, lightly beaten
lettuce leaves
dip and veggies of your choice

Cut a fourth off of one loaf of dough; shape into a pear to form head. For body, flatten remaining portion into a 7 in. x 6 in. oval; place on a greased baking sheet. Place head above body. Make narrow cuts, about 3/4 in. deep, on each side of head for whiskers.

Cut second loaf into four equal portions. For ears, shape two portions into 16. in. ropes; fold ropes in half. Arrange ears with open ends touching head. Cut a third potion of dough in half; shape each into a 3 1/2 in. oval for back paws. Cut two 1-in. slits on top edge for toes. Position on each side of body.

Divide the fourth portion of dough into three pieces. Shape two pieces into 2 1/2 in. balls for front paws; shape the remaining piece into two 1 in. balls for cheeks and one 1/2 in. ball for nose. Place paws on each side of body; cut two 1 in. slits for toes. Place cheeks and nose on face. Add raisins for eyes and almonds for teeth.

Brush dough with egg. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30-45 minutes. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to a wire rack to cool.

Place bread on a lettuce-lined 16 in. x 13 in. serving tray. Cut a 5 in x 4in oval in center of body. Hallow out bread, leaving a 1/2 in shell. Line with lettuce and fill with dip.

Baby Sling

With boy number 2 on the way and practically having everything we need for him, I've had a little time to make a few things for him. With my first I had one of those front facing carriers and didn't really like it. So I wanted to try these baby slings. I wish I would have taken a picture of the inside it has lions and hot air ballons. I did a few things different, to make it a little stronger but here is a good tutorial. If it can hold my 25 pound toddler it should be strong enough for a baby.

Free Double Jogger

I just love freecycle.org!! This lady put a post for a double jogger just like this one that she wanted to get rid of because the tire keeps going flat. I asked if I could have it and if it would fit in a car. She said she would deliver it to my house! It's in awesome condition the only thing wrong with it is the front tire needs some air. I looked up the value of it and it's a $200 jogger! A little silly that she was willing to give it up just for a bad tire but score for me!

Curious George Cake

Stain Removal

I've been going through my son's baby clothes to get ready for boy #2 and have tried several different stain sticks but nothing has worked very well. I came across this solution somewhere online 1/2 cup warm water to 4 Tbs. baking soda. I mixed it and applied directly to the heavily stained areas then I made another batch and poured directly over and let it sit for 15 minutes then washed like normal. I was amazed! There was one very bad looking onesie that looks great now! Plus it gets rid of the smell too. It says that it will even get blood out. I was so amazed at the results that I got that I just had to share.

Cake I made for my husbands work party held by Dr. Grossman, father of Rex Grossman (NFL quarterback). Chocolate cake with peppermint buttercream and crushed candy canes for filling. Peppermint flavored Tobba Garrett's fondant. I used the color mist red, which turned out a lot easier than trying to make red. Everyone was impressed and shocked that I just make cakes for fun.

Elvis Costume

This year for Halloween I thought it would be fun to make Robby one of my favorites, Elvis! I worked on and off for two months on his costume. I didn't have have a pattern. I used one of his shirts and pants that were a little too big for him and copied them, but unfortunately I forgotten that his little belly keeps growing, so I had to unpick it a lot and add stuff.

This is the back. We just made the eagle on the computer and printed it onto iron on transfer paper. We super glued little gems all over the suit.

Here he is all dressed up. He had a (non)sweaty scarf, belt buckle with gems, blue suede (felt) shoe coverings and a microphone. He won first place for the kids at our church and made the finals at the mall. He looked really cute in it! Someone commented to use that it was "nice to see a skinny Elvis again!"

This is a little random but I had to share. I am a big fan of classic movies and Cary Grant is one of my all time favorite actors. I've seen Dorris Day's 1963 , "Move Over Darling" several times and finally got around to watching the 1940's Cary Grant's version called, "My Favorite Wife." It is too funny! If you're into classic movie definitely check this one out!

Thankful Countdown

Sorry it's been awhile since I've posted. Having computer problems so I haven't been able to upload any photo's. My brother, Larry has graciously offered us his computer which we are very grateful for. Since my husband is in school we have been living off student loans and money is really tight for us.

Anyways, I'm so glad the holidays are coming. My favorite time of year! I came across this fun Thanksgiving Thankful Coutdown by Sugar Doodle. It's so cute! Has a little thankful activity you can do every day leading up to Thanksgiving. Check it out here. We will definitely be doing this!

Princess Cake

This cake was really fun for me to make. I don't get a chance to make super girly cakes, having two boys in the house. This was for a sister at my church that won my ticket for a decorated cake at a service auction we had. She has twin girls turning three and a son turning one tomorrow. She wanted me to make the girls cake. She told me they like pink and purple, My Little Pony and Disney Princesses, and that I could do whatever I wanted. So I made a white cake with sprinkles and buttercream frosting with the purple things on top being gum paste. The princesses are laminated and stuck on with frosting. I hate completely wasting things so I made an extra copy of the princesses and laminated them, so they can have a little memory game. She was very thrilled with the cake when I delivered it.

Pretzel Rods

Pretzel rods are so easy to make. I just melt my chocolate in a saucepan with tiny bit of corn syrup or water to thin it. Then I rolled it in Heath bits, my favorite ;-) These are fun because you can really go wild with your imagination. Use butterscotch or peanut butter chips, roll them in mini-M &M's or sprinkles etc. You can also do a layer of Carmel, let it dry on wax paper then do chocolate over that layer and drizzle with white chocolate. So yummy!

This is a blanket that I made, sewed right sides together, then turned it right way out and did a zig zag around it. I thought it seemed like too much pattern so I put the two yellow strips down it. The back is yellow. It looks better in person, and less wrinkly

Matching burp clothes to go with it. I cut the ends like you would a rag blanket.

I found this forum that talked about this place in Georgia that sells cake dummies for really really cheap! They don't know how much shipping is until they package it but they assure you that they make no profit off shipping. So I found this nightstand by the dumpster and took off the side and back. I reinforced it with L brackets on the inside and a 2 by 2. I spray painted it and mod podged a Car's poster onto it. It only coast about $6 to make.

Wedding Cake

We got married in December 2006 and had a winter wonderland type theme. This was our cake. I remember just loving this cake! She did a great job!

This is my mini version of it. I though it would be fun to try. I would have waited and done it for our anniversary, as we only got one piece of our wedding cake, but we won't be here and I don't think I'll have room to take much cake stuff with me. So it's a winter wedding anniversary cake in September!

I Love to Run

I love running! I've been running since I was 14, just for fun. I ran all the way up until I was 4 months pregnant with my son (2 years ago) and after he was born I didn't have much time, or really energy, to run. This spring I got back into it. At first I was only going 3/4 of a mile. It was sad! Everyday I try to go a little further and now I'm running a little over 3 miles a day, while pushing a jogger. I'm wanting to get up to 4 miles before the weather gets cold. I'm always driving the car on my route to see how far it is to a certain point, how to make it further etc. Well I found an easier way and this will work for biking, walking etc. The site Map My Run, lets you keep a log of your activities and calculates calories you burned. They also show all the different races going on and their routes. I thought it was exciting. I've been thinking a lot about it and I don't think I could ever do a marathon but would like to do a half marathon before we leave Indiana in three years.

This is a boppy cover I made for my sister-in-law, Spring. I just got my cover out and copied it. I had a zipper on the back but didn't like it. So I ended up putting a strip of velcro on the back, which I'm not sure I like either, next time I think I'll try snaps or buttons. Make Your Own Baby Stuff does have a boppy pattern if you want to give it a try.

I love making baby gifts! These are a few things I made and more posts to come.
The left is a ruffle butt onesie. I wish I had a picture of a baby wearing it because they are so cute. You can get the tutorial here. The guitar on the right is so easy and quick to make and really you can cut your material to any shape you want. You can find this tutorial and a cute tie onesie here.

This is a baby blanket I just tied together. I found the fabric on clearance at JoAnn's. I had to share because I just love the bright flowers on it.

Cake Wreck

I felt like making a cake today and since I've only been doing fondant lately I wanted to do buttercream today. I made a devil's food cake with coconut in between layers (it was yummy!). For some reason I guess I was just to eager to get started that I forgot to do a crumb layer on my chocolate cake....not a good idea!! Then my icing was too stiff for my roses and the side of my cake turned out to be a disaster (which is why you can't see it in the picture). It was so frustrating that I didn't even do the leaves. I guess this just means I need more cake to practice!

Eyeball

My husband just started his second year of optometry school so I made this small 6 inch eyeball cake for him. I just used some marshmallow fondant that I had leftover from my previous cake. This was probably the quickest cake I've done.

Course 3

Yesterday was my last day of Course 3. I will not be taking the gum paste class. It was a lot of fun taking the Wilton Classes and my teacher, Julie was amazing. For the final cake we did a two tiered cake. I used marshmallow fondant for the cake. The roses are done in Wilton fondant, as it has a little more form to it, and the ruffle is buttercream.

And of course this is too much cake for us so we gave some to our neighbors.

Dog Ball

My son turned 18 months today. I can't believe it! So in honor of his half birthday I thought, why not make a cake? Basketball and dogs are his two favorite things. He talks about them all day long. Everything round our semi round is a basketball. So this cake was a lot of fun for me to make.

I used Toba Garrett's fondant recipe. I made the basketball hoop and dog a few days ahead and added a little gum tex to help it keep it's shape. I did find a tutorial on how to make the dog from you tube. Click here if you want to see it. I sponge painted the top of the fondant with blue. Not sure if I liked it. I was able to get most of it done during Robby's nap. The only thing I had left was the stripes on the basketballs which I rushed though and not happy about.

I tried to hide the cake in my room so he wouldn't see it but he did walk in when I was trying to put laundry away. He got excited and kept saying "basketball." But he was still really excited when we brought it out for him. And seeing that cute smile on his face is why I love decorating cakes!

Bumble Bee's

I thought these little bee's were so cute! I couldn't find a site to really explain how to do them so I just kind of made it up. I just rolled the yellow fondant into ball, put buttercream stripes and antennas, then did a small fondant ball and flattened it for the wings. I have heard that starting with chocolate frosting it is easier to get back. It looks black but it still took a long time to get there. If anyone knows of a better way to get black let me know.

On Saturday we went to Joann fabric to get more mod podge and they were having a drawing for $100 as their store was just remodeled. I filled one out and so did Johnny. We got a message after church that Johnny won! So really that means I won!! I'm so excited! This means more cake decorating, more sewing, and more mod podging!

Fondant Cake Class

I started the fondant class. This is my first cake. Fondant is really easy to work with. We did these ribbon cakes (this picture is actually the back of the cake) and we made some fondant roses that we will be using on our final cake.

Ribbon Container

I've been wanting to make one of those ribbon containers that you always see in mason jars. Well I don't have any mason jars so I've put it off. I was going through my craft drawer the other day and my ribbon was all over, driving me nuts! So I thought of the next best thing. I just used an old shortening container and mod podged around and on top of it. Now I don't have to worry about it being scattered around.

Chocolate Swirls Cake

Course II Cake

This is my final cake from course II. Our power went out Tuesday at noon from a bad storm we had and didn't turn back on until late that night. My cake was in the middle of cooking when the power went out. So it was ruined! But I went to class to learn the techniques anyway. Everyone else had a cake there! I didn't realize that not everyone power when out. But I was able to make it at home the next day. We made all the flowers and birds in the first three weeks of class. I really like the basket wave look.

Cell Phone Mod Podge

My sister Tracy was riding her bike and had her cell phone in a bag on the handle bars. Somehow the bag got caught in the spokes and it scratched up the face of her cell. So we thought instead of paying money for a new cover let's MOD PODGE IT!!!!

Service Auction

For enrichment we decided we wanted to to a service auction. It turned out to be so much fun!! I was worried that there wouldn't be much stuff to auction off so I made four things. A baby blanket that I just quickly sewed with the machine and tied it. A baby crinkle toy that I found at Joy's Hope. A nursing bracelet and a coupon for one decorated cake. There turned out to be a good amount of stuff to auction off. I'm exited for the cake, the sister that won that has twin girls and she wants me to make their birthday cake in October.

I just thought this was cute. When ever Robby see's a blanket he has to cuddle with it and say "night night."

Lemon Frosting Cake

I wanted to try some of the frosting recipes on Wilton so I tried this lemon buttercream. It makes a thin consistency. I was able to thicken it a little to do the shell border. I had made the daises, violets and pansies ahead of time in royal icing. My sister put the leaves on for me as the kiddo really needed to go to bed before I could finish. I didn't really like the lemon frosting. Not as lemony as I was hoping for. I want to try the peanut butter buttercream next.

Dry Erase Calender

We found this frame at Hobby Lobby for $7. It was 90% off!! Tracy and I mod podged paper to some cardboard and drew out the calender on the inside of the glass in marker. We might redo it later in etching cream. Now we have a dry erase calender!

My mother-in-law made this sign for us. I absolutely love it! When she got the vinyl they missed spelled our name with an en instead of in, very common mistake. She was able to cover it up and you can't even tell.

I've been wanting to get a new swim suit but haven't been able to find anything descent around here. Well we went shopping in Indianapolis and I found this tankini top at Gap for $6!! I don't like it being so low so my sister had the bright idea to add the black fabric to the middle. So smart!

Necklace/ Accessory Holder

My sister, Tracy told me that she wanted a necklace holder. So we put our heads together and came up with this. The best part is it only cost about $7 to make. The frame was the most expensive thing $5 (she really liked this particular one). The knobs were only 20 cents each at Big Lots!

We hot glued the ribbon to the frame, straight down then diagonal, mod podged a piece of scrapbook paper to some cardboard, super glued the knobs on to the bottom of the frame and voila, a necklace/ accessory holder.

Bee-utiful Watercolor Card

I love making cards and I love painting. It's been awhile since I had painted or drew anything so I used this template that I got from Greeting Cards Galore. I used watercolor paper, 140 lb. cold press, traced my pattern (you could also use transfer paper) and painted.

I've also heard that you can put watercolor directly onto your stamps but I couldn't get it to work right. The color just went all over the paper. So if anyone knows how to do it please let me know.
